The popular misconception that Macs don't get viruses has become a lot less popular in recent years, as Apple devices have weathered their fair share of bugs. But it's still surprising that. In the OS X GUI, you simply have to invoke a Finder search by pressing Command-F, or invoke Spotlight with Command-Space, and then use these services to search for files not only by name, but also by content. In the Terminal, as with all tasks, finding files requires you know how to use a few basic commands. Search for something On your Mac, click the Spotlight icon (if shown) in the menu bar, or press Command-Space bar or press (if available in the row of function keys on the keyboard). You can drag the Spotlight window anywhere on the desktop. Tip: If the Spotlight icon isn't in the menu bar, add it using Dock & Menu Bar preferences.

The System Information app also shows your Mac model and serial number. Open the app, then select Hardware on the left side of the System Information window. The model name and serial number appear on the right:

- Look on the outside of your Mac, or check the original packaging, receipt, or invoice as described on the product-ID page for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook, iMac, Mac mini, or Mac Pro.
- Sign in to appleid.apple.com, then look for your Mac in the Devices section. If you see your Mac there, click its name to see the model name and serial number.
- If you still need help, contact an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
